About
Robert the Strong (d.866), Marquis of Neustria, was the founder of the Robertian fortune; a warrior set over the lands between Seine and Loire precisely because he could fight the Vikings. He died doing it, killed at Brissarthe in 866 turning back a Norse-Breton raiding army, and his reputation as the great captain of his age passed to his sons, both of whom became kings of the Franks. From him descend the Capetian kings and, far downstream, this family.
