About

Rollo was a Viking leader who raided the Seine until the King of the Franks gave him the land at the river's mouth to stop him, by the treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte in 911. That land became Normandy, and Rollo became the founder of a line that produced every Duke of Normandy and, after 1066, every king of England. He stands at the historical horizon of this family's Norman descent; above him is saga rather than record.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED at the historical horizon (web-confirmed 25 Jul 2026): ROLLO (Hrolfr, c.860-c.930), the Viking leader granted NORMANDY by the Treaty of St-Clair-sur-Epte 911 - FOUNDER AND 1st RULER of the Norman duchy, ancestor of every Duke of Normandy and King of England after 1066. Father of William Longsword (our line). *** THE NORMAN DUCAL SUMMIT: above Rollo the ancestry is Norse LEGEND (the sagas' Rognvald Eysteinsson of More) - note-only, the honest edge. Direct ancestor.
