Research notes

~ Siemomysł (Ziemomysł), ruler of the Polans before his son Mieszko I (attested 963). Known only from the Polish chronicle tradition, earliest Gallus Anonymus c.1115: 'Semimizl filius Lestik', who succeeded his father, and 'Meschonem' as son of 'Semimizl'; Annales Polanorum 'Listko genuit Semomil' and 'Semomislaus genuit Miscko cecum'. No contemporary source names him, but the mid-10th-century Polanian state Mieszko inherited (Constantine Porphyrogenitus c.950 records a pagan prince beyond the Oder) and the archaeology of the Piast strongholds (Gniezno, Giecz, Poznan) are consistent with a ruler of his generation, and historians (Labuda, Lowmianski, Jasinski) treat him and his father as historical. Wife: Medieval Lands gives '[Gorka]' but says no primary source confirms her - NOT entered. Other children: a brother of Mieszko killed in 963 (Widukind), Czcibor (Thietmar, 972), and possibly Adelajda, wife of Geza of Hungary. Source: Medieval Lands, 'Poland' ch.1 A (fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/POLAND.htm), quoting Gallus Anonymus (Chronicae Polanorum, c.1115), the Annales Polanorum and the Chronica principum Polonie; read 27 Oct 2026.
