✓ as named: Sir John Savage of Clifton, father of Ellen, wife of Peter Warburton of Arley (dispensation 1464-71). Not the same generation as the Sir John whose daughter Margaret m. John Dutton in 1418; not yet placed in the Savage pedigree. TOP - nothing further wired. Source: Ormerod, History of the County Palatine and City of Chester (1819), vol. I, pp.426-429 'Warburton of Arley' (from the family archives, communicated by the Rev. R. E. Warburton) (Sir Peter Leycester's text from the family evidences, with Ormerod's additions), read 2 Nov 2026 (archive.org djvu text). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 2 Nov 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||2 Nov 2026|| Leycester's Savage descent (Ormerod I pp.526-7) gives Sir John Savage senior (1422-1495) × Katherine Stanley a daughter 'Ellen Savage ... married Peter Legh of Lyme ... 1467', by licence dated in the 4th year of Paul II - the same pope and the same name as Peter Warburton's dispensation. Either two Ellens or a confusion between the Legh and Warburton marriages; Ellen Warburton's father therefore stays unplaced. I, pp.526-527 'the descent of the Savages of Clifton' (Sir Peter Leycester, from the Rock Savage evidences), read 2 Nov 2026 (archive.org djvu text).
