About
Sir John Scudamore of Kentchurch, sheriff of Herefordshire and castellan of the border castles, kept the biggest secret in the March: at some time before 1421 he had married Alys, daughter of the attainted rebel Owain Glyndwr, while crown officers still hunted her father. Tradition, never disproved and quietly believed at Kentchurch ever since, says the old prince spent his last hidden years under Scudamore protection at Monnington, an outlaw dying peacefully in his son-in-law's country.
