✓ Sir Viel (Vitalis) Engaine of Laxton, Pytchley, Blatherwycke, Bulwick, Great Gidding, Dillington, White Notley, Colne Engaine &c. (d. 22 Oct 1248, or 1244 per the Hist. Fundatorum de Castro Hymel), knight of Ramsey Abbey; lands restored to him 1217; m. Rohese (d. before him); father of Henry (d. unm. 1272), William and, 4th son, Sir John Engaine, who succeeded his brother in 1272. His own parentage not given by CP.
