✓ as a person, NAME UNKNOWN: the wife of Arthur Swayne of Sarson (I81052), living at his death 1609 - provided for in his will (a chamber in the house, board for herself, her man and her maid, 'one nag ... to ride upon at her pleasure during her widowhood', commuted by codicil to £30 a year out of Sarson), her portion settled 'by conveyance made unto friends in trust'. Mother of Anne Swayne (I81049), wife of William Freke, and of Mary (Lady Hyde), Jane, Robert and Edward - the will treats all the children as hers ('my said wife and all my children'), though an earlier marriage is not excluded. FAMILY: the will's 'my brothers in law Richard Norton and William Holcroft' make her, most probably, a NORTON (the Nortons of East Tisted and Rotherfield, the nearest gentry of the name), or a Holcroft, the other man being a sister's husband - NOT established; lead for the Hampshire Visitation of 1622/34 (Norton) and the Norton wills. Source: TNA PROB 11/114/128, will of Arthur Swayne of Sarson, gent (22 Apr 1609, codicil 12 Jun 1609, proved PCC 1 Jul 1609), read in the registered copy 27 Oct 2026; transcription in Research files/'Will of Arthur Swayne of Sarson 1609 (PROB 11-114-128) - transcription 27 Oct 2026.md'. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 27 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||27 Oct 2026 - NORTON LEAD CHECKED, NOT CLOSED|| TNA PROB 11/118/364, will of Sir Richard Norton of Rotherfield [recte East Tisted], knight, 8 Aug 1611, pr. 22 Nov 1611 (read): wife Dame Elizabeth; sons Sir Richard the younger, Thomas (lands in Alton; parsonage house of Empshott 'now in the occupation of my brother John Norton'), John; daughters Catherine and Elizabeth (£2,000 each); brothers John and Henry Norton; overseers Sir William Uvedale, John Norton of Bensted, John [Hooke?]. NO Swayne and no sister named. Visitation of Hampshire 1622/34 (Harl. Soc. 64 pp.14-15, page images read) identifies him as Sir Richard Norton of East Tisted, m. (1) Mabell da. of Henry Beecher, Alderman of London, (2) Elizabeth da. of Richard Capell; siblings John of Empshott, Henry, Mary (m. Sir Henry Uvedale) - again no Swayne marriage shown; four other Richard Nortons of the generation appear in cadet lines (Bensted, Hateley, Alderford) without wives. So 'my brother in law Richard Norton' in Arthur Swayne's will may be the East Tisted knight as brother of this woman (married daughters being often omitted), or a cadet, or the husband of Arthur's sister. Unresolved; her own will (PROB 11, Sarson/Amport, 1609-c.1635) or her son Robert's is the way to settle it.

Marriage: Arthur Swayne of Sarson; the name of his wife (Anne's mother) is not recorded.
