About
Thomas FitzMaurice, sixteenth Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw, was born in 1574 and pardoned in 1603 for his own and his father's rebellion, his estates restored the following year and the restoration confirmed in 1612. It was his five-year-old son who was smuggled out of the siege of Listowel in 1600 on an old woman's back. He married first Lady Honora O'Brien, who died in 1600, and second a daughter of Lord Power. He died in June 1630.

✓ DOCUMENTED (Burke's LANSDOWNE lineage p.2238): THOMAS FITZMAURICE, 16TH BARON OF KERRY AND LIXNAW; b. 1574; "pardoned for his and his father's rebellion 1603, his estates restored 1604, restoration confirmed 1612"; m. 1st c. 1594 LADY HONORA O'BRIEN (d. 1600), dau. of the 3rd Earl of Thomond - mother of Patrick 17th Baron (our line); m. 2nd 1615 Gille/Julia Power, dau. of the 4th Baron Le Power and Coroghmore; d. 3 Jun 1630. Direct ancestor. Added 21 Jul 2026. Per Bourke (JCHAS 26, 1920): waited on James I in 1604, made submission for his father's offences and his own, was pardoned, surrendered his estate and had it regranted by patent 16 Jul 1604 (confirmed 1 Jul 1612) - 'from this time forward the Fitzmaurices remained uniformly loyal' (the article's gloss; but see his great-grandson's Jacobite record, I99136). It was HIS five-year-old son who was smuggled from Listowel (see I99141).
