About

Thurstan Goz, vicomte of the Hiemois, gambled against the young Duke William in 1043, holding Falaise with French help against his own duke, and lost - exile, then a slow rehabilitation of his family, whose loyalty the Conqueror later trusted enough to make his son Earl of Chester's forerunner. From Thurstan descend the Goz earls of Chester and, through them, this line.
