William Damery of Ballymodan was active about 1700 and is the inferred link between the earliest documented Damerys of Bandon and the head of the proven line. He is not documented as either son or father; he is where the record needs a man and does not supply one. He is entered as an inference and labelled as one.
Research notes
William Damery "of Ballymodan," active c.1700; INFERRED son of Richard & Margaret and inferred father of Richard (b. ~1720). This bridging generation is PROBABLE, not proven: it rests on the register "Richard son of William" pattern, but the only such Richard on the register (bapt. 1727) died an infant in 1728 - so it is not certain our Richard ~1720 was this William's son (he could be a son of a different William, or of another branch). MOREOVER the Irish naming pattern points AWAY from William: Richard's eldest son was John (1752) and his second son William (1754), which by convention suggests Richard's OWN FATHER was a JOHN and that a William was ANN's father (the maternal grandfather) - so 'William of Ballymodan' may be mis-placed as Richard's father, and Richard's father was more likely a John (note the recurring John: a son John of Richard & Margaret bur. 1708, and Richard's eldest son John 1752). Grade: ~ probable/unproven, and the naming evidence favours a John father over this William. Reconciled July 2026; naming-pattern caveat added July 2026.
