✓ William de Duston, 'grandfather of Isabel de Grey', to whom one Scrangia, sometime holder of the manor of Aylesford, gave 100s. rent in Ditton, Kent, in free marriage with 'a certain maid (domicilla) of hers'. Probably the William de Duston who on 10 Feb 1206 had King John confirm the lands of his father Walkelin, Abbot of St James, Northampton (VCH Northants ii 127-30). Possible identifications of his wife, not established: the daughter of Geoffrey Wake with whom 'Willelmus de Dustone' held a knight's fee in Ebbesbourne, Wilts, in 1210/12 (Red Book of the Exchequer, via Medieval Lands 'English Lords T-Z'); and Mary, daughter of Thomas de Erdington and widow of William FitzAlan (d.1215), wife of 'William de Duston' by June 1220 (Curia Regis Rolls ix 57, via medievalgenealogy.org.uk). Source: Cal. Inq. Post Mortem I no.760 (55 Hen. III, 1271), inquisition on 100s. rent at Ditton, Kent (british-history.ac.uk).
