Research notes

✓ ES/standard: WILLIAM FITZ GILBERT of Lancaster, baron of Kendal; father of Avice (our line). OPEN above (~). Added 14 Sep 2026. ||27 Oct 2026 - RING|| ✓ Second marriage wired: Medieval Lands (Lancaster) - a charter of Henry II records that 'primus Willielmum de Lancaster, baronem de Kendale, qui prius vocabatur de Tailboys' married 'Gundredam comitissam Warwic' and that she was the mother of his son William [II]; Robert de Torigny names 'Gondrada sorore uterine Galeranni comitis Mellenti' as wife of Roger Earl of Warwick, and the Cockersand manuscript has William marrying 'Gundredam prius comitissam de Warwyke' (after Roger's death, Jun 1153). She is Gundreda de Warenne (I100214), already in the tree as countess of Warwick and mother of Waleran. His daughter Avice (I100751, wife of Richard de Morville) must by chronology be by an earlier unrecorded wife, so she stays in the family without a mother. The Kendal line now runs down through William II - Helewise - Hawise de Brus - Lucy de Thweng - the Thwengs of Cornbrough - Jane Westhorpe - the Westropps. He was William 'Taillebois', son of Gilbert and Goditha (sister of Ketel fitz Eldred); living 1166.
