About

William FitzGerald of Sixmilebridge stood party to his daughter's annuity deed in 1738; he is very probably a brother of Ellen, and one of the two brothers of the childless Colonel of Moy.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED as to himself (RD memorial 66547, 1738: 'Wm FitzGerald of Sixmilebridge in the sd Co Esq', 3rd party); ~ AS TO PARENTAGE: the working hypothesis - NOT hardened - is that William was a SON OF AUGUSTINE FITZGERALD OF MOY CASTLE (I100168) and brother of Ellen (I100163): (a) Burke calls his daughter Elizabeth the 'cousin' of Ellen's son Col. Henry - exact for a brother's daughter; (b) Betham's abstract of Col. Augustine of Sixmilebridge (d.1776) names a 'brother Wm F' - same place, right generation; (c) the Sixmilebridge/Moy estates and the recurring names Augustine and William knit one family. One document naming William's or the Colonel's father closes this. Deliberately left UNWIRED to Augustine per the evidence-weighting standard.
