About
William FitzGerald of Sixmilebridge stood party to his daughter's annuity deed in 1738; he is very probably a brother of Ellen, and one of the two brothers of the childless Colonel of Moy.
Research notes
✓ DOCUMENTED as to himself (RD memorial 66547, 1738: 'Wm FitzGerald of Sixmilebridge in the sd Co Esq', 3rd party); ~ AS TO PARENTAGE: the working hypothesis - NOT hardened - is that William was a SON OF AUGUSTINE FITZGERALD OF MOY CASTLE (I100168) and brother of Ellen (I100163): (a) Burke calls his daughter Elizabeth the 'cousin' of Ellen's son Col. Henry - exact for a brother's daughter; (b) Betham's abstract of Col. Augustine of Sixmilebridge (d.1776) names a 'brother Wm F' - same place, right generation; (c) the Sixmilebridge/Moy estates and the recurring names Augustine and William knit one family. One document naming William's or the Colonel's father closes this. Deliberately left UNWIRED to Augustine per the evidence-weighting standard. ||RD MEMORIAL 36881 READ 15 Oct 2026 (Vol 57 p.1, deed 21 Dec 1727, reg. 9 Feb 1727/8; images supplied by Aynsley)|| Marriage settlement of AUGUSTIN FITZGERALD, 'son and heir apparent' of WILLIAM FITZGERALD of SIXMILEBRIDGE, Esq., with MERCY RYAN, dau. of Morgan Ryan, decd, by Elizabeth Croasdaile (then wife of James Molony of Silver Grove); trustees Henry Ievers of Mount Ievers and James FitzGerald of Stonehall. William settles the farm of Moy (Moybeg, Moymore, Lackamore &c., baronies of Ibrickane and Corcomroe) and his Sixmilebridge dwelling house; his 'now wife' Joane (surname read Bryen; 'Jane Bryan' in the Mount Ievers history) has a £200 jointure. So Col. Augustine (d.1776) was William's SON, not his brother. William's own father is not named; the Moy descent makes Augustine of Moy Castle (I100168) his probable father (~, not wired - William is step-kin, not in the direct line). RD mem. 38912 (1728, William FitzGerald of Dublin, wife Alice) is a different man. ||SPAIGHT NOTE 15 Oct 2026|| Burke's LGI (1912), Westropp of Attyflinn p.759 and Gartside-Spaight p.654 (via WikiTree Spaight-21): Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Spaight of Bunratty (m. 1684, High Sheriff of Clare d.1698), 'm. William FitzGerald, brother of Augustine FitzGerald of Moy Castle'. On the dates (Elizabeth b. after 1684) this is William's SON William, brother of Col. Augustine of Moy Castle (d.1776; Betham names his 'brother Wm F'), not a brother of the elder Augustine (active from 1683).
