William Iron-Arm, fourth Duke of Aquitaine, warred all his life against the rising counts of Anjou and against his own restlessness, twice retiring to a monastery and twice returning, before ending his days a monk in earnest. He married Emma of Blois, and the ducal line ran on through their son.
