About

William IV (c.1040-1094), Count of Toulouse, ruled the county while his famous younger brother Raymond of Saint-Gilles gathered the reputation; and on William's death without sons the whole inheritance passed to Raymond, who took it on the First Crusade to fame. William's daughter Philippa married the troubadour Duke of Aquitaine: through her, Toulouse descends to Eleanor and to us.
