✓ William Peverel of Nottingham the younger, 'one of the principal supporters of King Stephen', a commander at the battle of the Standard (1138), taken prisoner at Lincoln (1141), his estates forfeited for a time and Nottingham castle committed by the Empress to William Paynel; recovered it 1143. In 1155 Henry II marched against him 'in order, as the annalists state, to disinherit William Peverel for the crime of wickedness and treason, for he was said to have poisoned Ranulph, Earl of Chester' (Ranulf de Gernon, who is also in this tree) - the honour of Peverel was lost and he is said to have become a monk at Lenton. 'His wives were (1) Oddona, and (2) Avice de Lancastria, who was presumably a da. of Count Roger the Poitevin'; 'He had a son, Henry, and a daughter, Margaret, eventually, or in her issue, his heir, and wife of Robert, Earl of Ferrieres': CP IV Appendix I 'Peverel of Nottingham' pp.761-767 (G. W. Watson). Son of William Peverel the elder by Adeline. Wives not wired (which was Margaret's mother is not stated). Source: Complete Peerage 2nd ed. vol.
