About
William the Eighth, Guy-Geoffroy, united Gascony to Aquitaine and led the great expedition of 1064 against Barbastro - the campaign later ages would call the first rehearsal of the Reconquista, and the crusading idea itself. He married Hildegarde of Burgundy, and his son was the Troubadour: the sword-duke fathered Europe's first known vernacular poet.
