Alfonso the Third of Asturias, the Great, more than doubled his mountain kingdom, drove the frontier to the Duero, and had chronicles written casting his house as the heirs of the lost Visigothic realm - the idea of the Reconquista, set down on his orders. Deposed at the end by his own sons, he died in 910; this line runs through the son who took Leon.
