About
Ambrose Hickey took his doctorate of divinity and served as a rector in Cork for some forty years. He is the clergyman of Chapter 10, who spent a working lifetime baptising, marrying and burying the tenant families of his parishes, among whom, quite possibly, were the Damerys.

Educated by Dr Benson; entered TCD 1 Nov 1767; Scholar 1770; BA 1772; DD 1803. Ordained deacon Kildare 16 May 1773, priest Cork 5 Apr 1774. Curate of Innishannon 1775-80; Prebendary of Donoghmore (Ross) 21 Jul 1780; RECTOR OF BALLYMONEY 1784-96; RECTOR OF MURRAGH 1796-1826 - i.e. the clergyman of the very parishes where the Damerys farmed. m. 1787 Jane Herrick, dau. of Falkiner Herrick, Esq., of Shippool, Co. Cork. His son (Anne's brother) was Rev. William Hickey (1787-1875), 'Martin Doyle', the celebrated agricultural writer (DIB). Marriage: Rev. Ambrose Hickey DD x Jane Herrick, m. 1787 (Alumni Dublinenses / Brady-derived account via WikiTree Hickey-3430). Jane is his only recorded wife, hence recorded as mother of Anne (b. c.1798); grade ~ until confirmed in Brady's Clerical and Parochial Records in print.
