✓ Angharad, daughter of Nest ferch Rhys (I99839) - and, on the testimony of her own son Gerald of Wales (De rebus a se gestis; cf. ODNB 'Gerald of Wales'), of Gerald of Windsor (I99838), constable of Pembroke; wife of William de Barry of Manorbier; mother of Philip de Barry (our line), Robert, and Giraldus Cambrensis. Half-sister of Robert FitzStephen, Nest's son by Stephen constable of Cardigan, who was Philip's 'maternal uncle'. CONFLICT RECORDED: CP I (1910) 'Barry' p.436 calls her 'Angareth, da. of Stephen, Constable of Cardigan Castle (by Nesta, da. of Rhys ap Griffith)'; the Gerald of Windsor filiation is followed here because Giraldus himself states it and because the Barry-FitzGerald kinship was asserted by the Geraldines from the start; the descent from Nest is common to both. RING 26 Oct 2026 into Gerald of Windsor x Nest (F99712). Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. I (1910), 'Barry, Barrymore or Buttevant' pp.435-444 (early portion rewritten by G.D. Burtchaell from Rev. E. Barry's 'Barrymore', JCHAS 2nd ser. vols v-viii, 1899-1902), read 26 Oct 2026 (archive.org djvu text).
