About
Anne Hamilton Lane was born at Lanespark in Tipperary, a daughter of John Hamilton Lane and his wife Jane Hunt, and in 1803 she married Richard White of Kilmoylan. She is the point at which two quite different inheritances join: her father's family carried a proud and, as it turns out, unprovable claim to the Lanes of Bentley Hall, while her mother's carried a documented descent from the Earls of Oxford that nobody in the family seems to have known about. Burke's records the family's own candid description of her as an enormously large woman, which is the kind of detail a compiler only prints when the relatives supplied it.
Research notes
Documented line. Anne, dau. of John Hamilton Lane of Lanespark, Co. Tipperary, by his wife Jane, sister of Sir Vere Hunt, 1st Bt (Burke's IFR, which preserves the family's candid description of her as 'an enormously large woman'). REPOSITIONED July 2026: wife of RICHARD WHITE of Kilmoylan (1769-1821), not of Newport White (1728) as formerly recorded. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
Marriage: Richard White of Kilmoylan (1769-1821) x Anne Hamilton Lane. CORRECTED July 2026: Burke's IFR - Richard White m. Anne, 'an enormously large woman', dau. of John Hamilton Lane of Lanespark, Co. Tipperary, by his wife Jane, sister of Sir Vere Hunt, 1st Bt. Anne had been attached in error to Newport White (1728) a generation above. MARRIAGE DATED 13 Jul 2026: Cashel & Emly marriage licence bond index, 'Lane, Anne, and Richard White, 1803' (image read from the index page) - licence bond 1803, marriage that year or shortly after. Same page: 'Jane [Lane] and William White, 1810' - Anne's sister? Another Lane-White match worth a look in Burke's IFR White of Kilmoylan.
