About
John Hamilton Lane of Lanespark, in the barony of Slievardagh in Tipperary, married Jane Hunt in 1783 and had nine children by her. He died in London in September 1801, leaving her with all of them, and the letters his brother-in-law Sir Vere Hunt wrote that month about the funeral and about providing for the widow and children survive in the Limerick archives. His marriage is the most consequential event in this family's history, though not for any reason he would have recognised: everything his own line claimed about grand English cousins came apart under examination, and everything his wife's line carried, unremarked, turned out to be true.

PARENTAGE RESOLVED AND MOVED 14 Jul 2026 (Aynsley's approval): son of JOHN LANE JNR of Lanespark (Col. John's eldest son and heir, d. at Roesgreen by 23 Jan 1758) by ELIZABETH LOWE (m. settlement 4 Mar 1755, ROD 174/336/116452; eldest dau. of Hamilton Lowe of Roesgreen - whence the HAMILTON name). The received 1898 John A. Lane letter made JHL Col. John's son directly; Murray Lane's interposed generation is vindicated by six independent records (ROD 111715 eldest-son deed 1754; the 1755 settlement; 1755 bond; 1758 admon; the Hamilton/Lowe onomastics; chronology). His father died when he was ~2; his mother remarried Christopher Hewetson of Kilkenny (deed-documented, ROD 299081); he was raised heir at Lanespark under his grandfather Col. John. THE LANE PEDIGREE: William Lane, '49 officer, granted Killeens (renamed Lanes Park) 1666, will 1672 -> William II (m. 1678 Maria Minchin, d. 1698) -> Ambrose Lane (m.1 Eleanor Gabbitt, d. 1724/6) -> Col. John Lane (m. 1727 Elizabeth Bunbury of Kilfeacle) -> [prob. John Lane, eldest son, fl. 1749-54] -> John Hamilton Lane. Steps William II->Ambrose->Col.
