About
Berengar II (c.900-966), King of Italy, of the house of Ivrea, seized the Italian crown in 950 and tried to force the widowed queen Adelaide into marriage with his son; her escape and appeal to Otto the Great brought the German king over the Alps twice, the second time for good. Berengar died a prisoner at Bamberg, the last man to fight for an independent Italian kingship. Our line runs through his son Adalbert.
