Catherine Bernard was the fifth daughter of Francis Bernard of Castle Mahon, the 1639 settler whose descendants became Earls of Bandon.

Catherine Bernard, 5th daughter of Francis Bernard of Castle Mahon (d. 1659, the 1639 settler); WIFE of Francis Beamish of Kilmalooda (d.1679) and MOTHER of Richard Beamish (our line). (Her father's death was formerly mis-noted here as "c.1695" - a leftover of the old daughter/wife confusion, confirmed resolved by Aynsley Jul 2026: the c.1695 date is Catherine's own death, not her father's.) CORRECTED June 2026 per Kingsley's Landed Families ('Beamish of County Cork') and Burke's Irish Family Records: she was Francis's WIFE, not his mother as earlier placed - so she and the whole Bernard/Freke/Swayne/Ryves line move DOWN one generation. This removes the spurious extra Beamish generation and brings the GEDCOM into line with the book's Appendix A counts. Her own parents: Francis Bernard x Elizabeth Freke. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
Marriage: Francis Beamish of Kilmalooda (d.1679) x Catherine, 5th dau. of Francis Bernard of Castle Mahon. Their third son was Richard Beamish (our line).
