✓ David de Barry, of Olethan, [s. and h. of William de Barry of Olethan]; granted 24 Sep 1234 a weekly market and yearly fair at his manor of Buttevant; enlarged the friary of Ballybeg 1235; 'It was probably he who was styled Barrach Mór [i.e. the great Barry] by the Irish, and who was slain at the battle of Callan, in Desmond, in 1261' (CP I pp.436-7) - the same battle in which John fitz Thomas and Maurice fitz John of Desmond (I100239, I101748) fell. CP I gives him in sequence after William (1206) without the formula 's. and h.' - the filiation is Rev. E. Barry's reconstruction, accepted by Burtchaell. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol.
