✓ Duncan II, King of Scots 1094, eldest son of Malcolm III Canmore (I99824) by his first wife or partner - William of Malmesbury calls him illegitimate; the Orkneyinga Saga names his mother as Ingibjorg, widow of Thorfinn of Orkney, but Medieval Lands finds the chronology doubtful and no Scottish or English source names her, so his mother is NOT entered. Hostage to William I at Abernethy 1072, kept in Normandy, knighted and released 1087; with William II's support deposed his uncle Donald Ban 1094 - 'Dunecanus filius regis Malcolum constans hereditarie rex Scotie' gave Tynninghame to St Cuthbert's for the souls of his father, 'fratri mei, uxore mea et infans mei' (1093/4). Killed at Mondynes by Maelpetair, mormaer of the Mearns, 12 Nov 1094 (Annals of Ulster: 'treacherously killed by his own brothers Domnall and Edmond'). m. (c.1090) Ethelreda, daughter of Gospatric, Earl of Northumberland.
