Research notes

Edward Herrick, of Shippool; m. 1728 Elizabeth, dau. of Caleb Falkiner of the city of Cork; six sons and two daus. His 2nd son Edward, Lieut. R.N., was killed on board the Dorsetshire in Sir Edward Hawke's action, 20 NOV 1759. ⚠ DATE CORRECTED 7 Aug 2026: Burke's LGI pp.316-17 prints '20 Sept. 1759', but Hawke's action was the BATTLE OF QUIBERON BAY, fought 20 NOVEMBER 1759, and HMS DORSETSHIRE (70 guns, Capt. Peter Denis, 520 men) was present in Hawke's line that day - she came up with the French rear at the narrow entrance to the bay, took heavy fire, and was nearly lost when a squall laid her on her beam ends and she flooded through the lee gunports before she luffed up. Burke's month is a misprint; the printed reading is recorded here rather than silently overwritten. Succeeded his father Gershom 1730. Source: Burke's LGI, 'Tabuteau-Herrick of Shippool'. Added July 2026. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]

Marriage: Edward Herrick of Shippool x Elizabeth Falkiner, 1728 (Burke's LGI).
