About
Edward the First, called Longshanks and the Hammer of the Scots, reigned from 1272 to 1307. He conquered Wales and built the castles that still hold it down, expelled the Jews from England, spent his last years failing to subdue Scotland, and reformed English law and Parliament so thoroughly that his statutes were still being cited in the nineteenth century. His daughter Elizabeth married the Earl of Hereford, and through their daughter this family descends from him.

VI, 'Ormond' pp.139-146 (photographed & read 23 Jul 2026). for the link): **EDWARD I, KING OF ENGLAND** ('Longshanks', 'Hammer of the Scots'), r. 1272-1307; b. 1239; conqueror of Wales, protagonist of the Scottish wars, reformer of English law and Parliament. Father of the Lady Elizabeth Plantagenet (our line). *** THE PLANTAGENET DESCENT ACHIEVED - the royal-English line the Camoys route FAILED to give (Alice Camoys = Louches not Mortimer); it comes instead through HELEN BUTLER and the Earls of Ormond. ABOVE HIM = NOTE-ONLY (all national record, extendable): Henry III <- King JOHN (Magna Carta) <- Henry II <- the Angevins & Eleanor of Aquitaine, and back to WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR (already in this tree via the Clare line - so Edward I is a SECOND route to the Conqueror, now through the crown); also, via Edward's queen Eleanor of Castile and his Angevin/Capetian kin, further descents from Alfred, Charlemagne and St Louis's house.
