Ellen fitz Elias was a daughter and heiress, and her marriage to the first Baron of Kerry brought Listowel into the family. Three centuries later a five-year-old descendant of hers would be smuggled out of that same castle during a siege and carried six miles through the woods to a cave. The building stands at both ends of the story.
