Maurice fitz Thomas was created first Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw, apparently by his summons to Parliament in 1295. He married Ellen fitz Elias, an heiress, and the barony he founded lasted six hundred years.

✓ DOCUMENTED (Source: Burke's Peerage (modern edn), LANSDOWNE lineage pp.2237-38, re-photographed and read 22 Jul 2026.): MAURICE FITZ THOMAS, 1ST BARON OF KERRY AND LIXNAW - "cr apparently by a sitting in Parl 1295"; m. 1st ELLEN, dau. and heiress of William fitz Elias, "with whom he got LISTOWEL and other lands in the cantred of Altry, Co Kerry" - the same Listowel Castle from which his descendant Patrick (I99141) was carried to safety in 1600; m. 2nd Sibyl (son Gerald - collateral); d. on or after 14 Apr 1305. By Ellen also two younger sons: PETER/PIERS, "ancestor of the PIERSEs of Co Kerry" (⚠ NO relation to Piers of Tristernagh, I99116ff - never conflate), and Robert. Direct ancestor. Added 22 Jul 2026.
