✓ Flaald (Fretald), steward of Dol in Brittany (d. [1070/76]), witness c.1050; father of Alan, hereditary seneschal of Dol ('Alanus filius Flaudi', 'Alanus filius Flaaldi' in Combourg and Saint-Georges de Rennes charters), of Flaald and of Rhiwallon, monk of Saint-Florent. Medieval Lands, following Paul Fox, treats all records of 'Alan son of Flaald' as one man - the Alan who received Oswestry and fathered William FitzAlan and Walter, Steward of Scotland; J.H. Round had split him into uncle and nephew without primary evidence. His own father possibly Hato (unproved, not wired). Supersedes the 'semi-legendary' floor in Alan's note.
