Research notes

✓ GEORGE RALEIGH, Esq., of Farnborough and Thornborough, Warks (c.1500-1546+, will dated 2 Apr 1546, quoted by Dugdale - the 'd. before 2 Apr 1546' on tree sites is a misreading of the will DATE); son of Edward Raleigh by Anne Chamberlain; succeeded his GRANDFATHER Sir Edward (his father predeceased). Father of Bridget (our line). ⚠ BRIDGET'S MOTHER NOT PROVEN: George m. (1) Jane, dau. of Sir William Coningsby (so Dugdale and Watney, Wallop Family p.470); (2) Anne, widow FitzGerrard; (3) a dau. of Erneley (Vis. Warks 1619). Chronology favours Jane Coningsby but treat as probable-only - mother left UNWIRED. Sources: Vis. Warwickshire 1619 (Harl. Soc. 12, pp.76-78: 'Bridget ux. William Kingsmill' under George's issue - NB his aunt 'Bridgett ux. John Cope miles' is the OTHER Bridget Raleigh, one generation up; never conflate); Vis. Hampshire 1622-34 (Harl. Soc. 64: 'Bridgett d. of George Raleigh of Thornborough'); Dugdale, Antiquities of Warwickshire (Farnborough). Direct ancestor. Added 8 Aug 2026 (the Raleigh royal door - consolation wave after the St Leger door closed; full write-up in RANKED LEADS addendum).
