✓ as a name: Hawise (Helewise), wife of Ralph, 1st Lord Basset of Drayton, and mother of his son Ralph (Patent Roll 11 Edw. III, pars 2, m.30, cited CP II 'Basset of Drayton' p.2 n.(f)); CP notes she 'has been wrongly identified, by Dugdale and others, with Margaret, widow of Urian de St. Pierre'. Parentage unknown; mother also of Margaret, Lady Stafford, by the standard accounts (CP names no other wife). TOP. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd ed. vol. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 27 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||27 Oct 2026 - NOTE|| CP XII/1 'Stafford' p.173 (1953) makes Margaret, Lady Stafford, a daughter of Ralph Lord Basset 'by Joan, da. of Reynold Grey of Ruthin'; CP II (1912) shows that Joan was the 2nd Lord's wife (settlement 1304) and that the 1st Lord's wife was Hawise - the chronology (Margaret m. by 1298) supports CP II. Hawise retained as Margaret's mother. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd ed. vol. XII part 1 (1953), 'Stafford' pp.173-174 and notes (page images supplied by Aynsley, read 27 Oct 2026).
