About

Igor of Kiev ruled the Rus in the first half of the tenth century and was killed by the Drevlians while extorting a second round of tribute from them. His widow Olga's revenge on that tribe is one of the more spectacular passages in the Russian Primary Chronicle. Above him the pedigree reaches Rurik, where record gives way to legend.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED as prince / ~ at the Rurik rung (web-confirmed 25 Jul 2026): IGOR RURIKOVICH, PRINCE OF KIEV (r. 912-945), killed by the Drevlians while collecting tribute; husband of St Olga, father of Sviatoslav I (our line). *** THE FRONTIER: Igor is traditionally the son (or, per some sources, grandson) of RURIK, the semi-legendary Varangian founder of the dynasty (fl. 860s-879) - that single rung is LEGENDARY and is left NOTE-ONLY, exactly as Cerdic sits above Alfred and Milesius above the Gaelic kings. The wired Rurikid line therefore tops out honestly at Igor. Direct ancestor. Added 25 Jul 2026.
