Isabel de Vermandois married twice, first the first Earl of Leicester and then the second Earl of Surrey, and left descendants through both, which is one reason so many English noble lines run back to Charlemagne through her. She is the point at which the old Carolingian blood of the counts of Vermandois enters the Anglo-Norman aristocracy.
