✓ DOCUMENTED (standard CP account): JANE (Joan), wife of Alfonso de Vere; mother of John, 7th Earl of Oxford (our line). Direct ancestress. Added 22 Jul 2026. ||PARENTAGE; RESOLVED 7 Aug 2026 (CP1 vol. VI, Oxford, entry VII, supplied by Aynsley): father = SIR RICHARD FOLIOT, now wired (I100542). CP credited over online 'Jordan' trees.|| [superseded reasoning follows] Jane/Joan (b. c.1282) belongs without doubt to the FOLIOT OF NORTON & WELLOW / GRESSENHALL house, but the sources split between two men of that house, a father and his son: (a) SIR RICHARD FOLIOT of Norton & Wellow, who married Margery de Stuteville, heiress of GRESSENHALL (this is how the Foliots got Gressenhall) - the reading our old note took from the CP Oxford account; and (b) their son SIR JORDAN FOLIOT, 1st Baron Foliot (1249-1299). Chronology favours JORDAN (a daughter b.1282 fits a father b.1249 far better than his father Richard, then aged ~55-60). Because the tie-breaker is the exact wording of Complete Peerage vol. X (Oxford) p.193, which has NOT been read directly, her father is DELIBERATELY LEFT UNWIRED - the ambiguity is between two specific, closely related men, so no hard FAMC is drawn. (Aside: her possible daughter Margery is given as wife of a Sir Maurice de Berkeley.) Not a clean extension until CP X p.193 is checked.
