~ Joan, wife of David de Barry (3rd Lord, d. c.1290): CP I p.438 n.(a) quotes a deed in Lodge - 'the wife of David de Barry, living 1298, was named Joan; that she afterwards m. Eustace le Poer, and assigned to her son John de Barry, for all her dower in Olethan, the moiety of the cantred of Muskery' - and concludes 'This seems as if this Joan... was the mother of John, the 1st s. and successor of this David and of his 2 younger brothers' (i.e. including David 5th Lord, our line). CP's own 'is said to have m. Maud de Boulltron, of Wales' is the Carew-pedigree alternative. Grade ~: CP's inference, not a statement. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. Barry (1902) quotes the same Archdall deed and adds: 'She may have been the Joan, third daughter of Maurice, second Lord of Kerry, wrongly made wife of William Moyle Barry by Archdall' - a guess, not adopted. In Rev. Barry's scheme she is mother of John (d.s.p.), David (m. Maud Bolton) and Richard (m. Beatrice da. of Sir Nicholas de Carrew); in CP's, of John 4th and David 5th. Source: Rev.
