Son of David FitzDavid, 3rd Lord; CP I p.438 n. infers from a deed in Lodge that his mother was Joan, widow of David de Barry living 1298 (she m. 2ndly Eustace le Poer). Wife not named by CP. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. I (1910), 'Barry, Barrymore or Buttevant' pp.435-444 (early portion rewritten by G.D. Burtchaell from Rev. E. Barry's 'Barrymore', JCHAS 2nd ser. vols v-viii, 1899-1902), read 26 Oct 2026 (archive.org djvu text). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 26 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||26 Oct 2026|| Wife added: Margaret (Pat. 29 Edw. III, 1355). Rev. E. Barry calls him 'David an bhuille mhóir' (of the great blow), 8th Lord of Olethan. CONFLICT RECORDED, CP kept: Rev. Barry (1902) makes this David a GRANDSON of David FitzDavid (d. c.1293) - son of a second son David who m. 'Maud Bolton (alias Matilda de Bolton of Wales, afterwards wife of McCarthy Mor)' - with John 4th Lord as his uncle, following the Carew pedigree (Lambeth 635: '5 David, Lord Justice; 6 David, who married Maud Bolton; 7 William Moyle'). Burtchaell, revising Rev. Barry for CP I (1910), compressed this: David FitzDavid 3rd Lord 'is said to have m. Maud de Boulltron, of Wales' and David 5th is 'next br. and h.' of John 4th. McFirbis's pedigree (1650) has no extra David. Not decidable from the record as read; CP's shorter chain stands. Source: Rev.
