About
John de Vere, seventh Earl of Oxford, succeeded his uncle in 1331 and spent his life at war. He led the second division at Crecy in 1346 with the Earl of Warwick, and fought in the vanguard at Poitiers ten years later beside the Black Prince. He died on campaign near Rheims.
