About
John de Vere was the son and heir of Sir Robert de Vere and the father of the fifteenth Earl of Oxford. He married Alice Colbroke, a Cornish coheiress, and it is through her that an Essex earldom acquired manors in St Ewe, St Austell and St Columb Major, which is why a family from Castle Hedingham keeps turning up in Cornish records.

X p.245, section XV, photographed 22 Jul 2026: the 15th Earl was "s. and h. of John DE VERE, by Alice, da. and coh. of Walter KILRINGTON, otherwise COLBROKE, which last-named John was s. and h. of Sir Robert de Vere, yr. son of the XIth Earl"): JOHN DE VERE, son and heir of Sir Robert; m. ALICE (dau. and coheir of Walter Kilrington otherwise Colbroke, by Jane Tresithny); father of John, 15TH EARL OF OXFORD.
