About

John fitz Nicholas, fourth Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw, succeeded his brother, who had been captured by the Earl of Desmond and starved to death in prison at Castle Island in 1339. He was styled Lord of Kerry by 1345, was apparently knighted by 1374, and had the family estates restored to him.
