About

John Francis Elliott was born in November 1908 at 30 Quaker Road in Cork, the son of a labourer, and he came of the city's weaving people of Blarney Street, one of the oldest crafts in Cork. By 1942 he was a charge-hand at Eustace's in Cork Buildings, and in June of that year he married Nora Bowdren at Clogheen church. He is Aynsley's maternal grandfather. His people held no manor and bore no arms and left no printed pedigree; what they left instead was the city itself and the civil registers in which Ireland, from the 1860s, set every one of them down by name.
