About
John Gabbett of Rathjordan was commissioner for collecting the revenue in County Limerick in 1695, one of several men in this tree who made their living counting other people's money for the Crown.

John Gabbett, of Rathjordan, Co. Limerick, 'commissioner for collecting the revenue in co. Limerick, in 1695'; d. 29 Sept 1707, leaving (besides our Eleanor, wife of Ambrose Lane of Lanespark) a son and heir - Burke's LG 1850 vol 2, 'GABBETT of Caherline' (scan p.822). The Gabbett arms: Arg., a wild boar chained to an oak-tree ppr.; crest a boar's head couped sa. His Rathjordan lands appear in the Lanes' 1754 recovery-settlement (ROD 166/321/111715). The Gabbetts of Caherline are fully pedigreed in Burke's LG/LGI (incl. LGI 1912 p.254, where a later Gabbett - Charles Edward Dudley Gabbett, 1839-89 - is himself 'of Lanes Park').
