John III Comyn Lord of Badenoch

John Comyn, the Red Comyn, Lord of Badenoch, co-Guardian of Scotland and claimant to its crown, was stabbed to death by Robert the Bruce before the high altar of the Greyfriars at Dumfries on 10 February 1306 - the most consequential murder in Scottish history, for which Bruce was excommunicated and from which he rode to his coronation. The Comyn's daughter Joan carried the blood of the murdered Guardian into the Talbots, and so to this family: the tree remembers the man who did not become king.
