About
Kingsmill Pennefather of New Park was a colonel of militia, member of parliament for Cashel and twice High Sheriff of Tipperary, and he carried his mother's maiden name as his forename - which is how the Kingsmill descent is recorded in this family at all. Wiring him closes a loop: the tree now reaches Matthew Pennefather and Levina Kingsmill down two separate lines.
Research notes
✓ AS TO HIS OWN PLACE (Burke's LGI 1912, 'Pennefather of Rathsallagh', already cited in his daughter's note): KINGSMILL PENNEFATHER, of NEW PARK, co. Tipperary; Col. of Militia; M.P. for CASHEL and later for co. Tipperary; HIGH SHERIFF 1703 and 1708; SON of MATTHEW PENNEFATHER (I99019) by LEVINA/LAVINIA KINGSMILL (I99020), the heiress of Ballyowen renamed New Park - whence his forename; m. his cousin, the only dau. and heir of John Pennefather of Compsey; father of Mary (I99081). BROTHER of William of Marlow (d.1772), from whom the Huleatt/Ellen Pennefather line in this file descends. ⚠ GRADE INHERITED: this ascent is only as strong as the rung BELOW it - Mary Pennefather as the mother of Elizabeth Lowe is graded ~ (Burke's secondary plus the corroboration that Richard Pennefather of Newpark stood in Elizabeth's 1755 marriage settlement; Betham's abstract of the 1770 Lowe will should settle it). If that rung falls, this whole second Pennefather descent falls with it. SO THE DOUBLE PENNEFATHER DESCENT ONTO MATTHEW x LEVINA IS NOW WIRED, AT GRADE ~, AND FLAGGED AS SUCH. ALSO NOTE: Col. Richard Pennefather of New Park (I100276, entered 7 Aug 2026 from the Going of Ballyphilip article) is very likely of this man's descent - the Rathsallagh article should place them both. WIRED 7 Aug 2026 from the subject's own existing note - this parent was already documented in the file but had never been given a record.
