Research notes

Mary Pennefather, eldest dau. of Kingsmill Pennefather of New Park (Col. of Militia, M.P. for Cashel and later co. Tipperary, High Sheriff 1703 and 1708) by his cousin, the only dau. and heir of John Pennefather of Compsey; m. Hamilton Lowe of Roe's Green - Burke's LGI 1912, Pennefather of Rathsallagh article. HER GRANDFATHER = Matthew Pennefather x Levina Kingsmill - the same couple from whom WILLIAM OF MARLOW (d. 1772, ancestor of the Huleatt/Ellen Pennefather line already in this file) descends: Kingsmill of New Park and William of Marlow were brothers. IF Mary is Elizabeth Lowe's mother (presumed - Hamilton Lowe's only recorded marriage in Burke's, and Richard Pennefather of Newpark stood in Elizabeth's 1755 settlement - but an Ancestry tree garbles her as 'Elizabeth Pennefather' and Betham's abstract of the 1770 Lowe will should settle it), then the tree carries a DOUBLE PENNEFATHER DESCENT converging on Matthew x Levina Kingsmill. Grade ~ as at July 2026. ||UPGRADED 7 Aug 2026 (page image read)|| 'PENNEFATHER OF RATHSALLAGH' pp.553-54 read from the page image, which states her marriage OUTRIGHT and in the Pennefather pedigree's own words: Kingsmill Pennefather of New Park 'm. his cousin, the only dau. and heir of John Pennefather of Compsey, and had (with four daus., THE ELDEST, MARY, m. HAMILTON LOWE, OF ROE'S GREEN, CO. TIPPERARY; the 2nd, Lavinia, m. Sir John St. Leger, Baron of the Exchequer; the 3rd, m. Capt. Prince; and the 4th, m. Rev. Francis Gore) six sons'. THE RUNG IS NOW ✓ FROM THE PENNEFATHER SIDE AS WELL AS THE LOWE SIDE, and with it the DOUBLE PENNEFATHER DESCENT onto Matthew x Levina Kingsmill, wired 7 Aug 2026, rises from ~ to ✓. Her three sisters are recorded here, not entered. END OF LINE as entered. Added 14 Jul 2026.
