About
Margaret Cecil was a sister of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, Elizabeth the First's Lord High Treasurer and the architect of her state. She is NOT an ancestor of this family. She was one of eight people who entered this tree in a single evening in July 2026 and left it the following morning when the join beneath them was disproved. She is kept here as a record of what the checking cost.
Research notes
MARGARET CECIL (d. 1611), SISTER OF WILLIAM CECIL, LORD BURGHLEY, Lord High Treasurer to Elizabeth I - both children of RICHARD CECIL, Esq., of Burghley (d. 1553), by Jane Heckington. m. Roger Cave of Stanford; their dau. Elizabeth m. 1584 Walter Bagot of Blithfield (our line, on the ~ Lane join). Her parents Richard Cecil and Jane Heckington, and grandfather David Cecil (yeoman of the chamber to Henry VII), are abundantly documented (HoP, ODNB) but NOT entered as individuals - the group already stands three ~ steps above the proven tree; extend only if the William Lane join is ever hardened. END OF LINE as entered. Added July 2026.
