About

Margery de Badlesmere was a daughter of Bartholomew, Lord Badlesmere, who was hanged in 1322, and of Margaret de Clare, who defied a queen at Leeds Castle. She is a sister of this family's other Badlesmere ancestress, Maud, so the two lines part and rejoin.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED (web-confirmed 25 Jul 2026; CP): MARGERY DE BADLESMERE (c.1306-18 Oct 1363), eldest dau. of BARTHOLOMEW, 1ST LORD BADLESMERE (I99562), by MARGARET DE CLARE of Thomond (I99561); m. (bef. 25 Nov 1316) William de Ros, 2nd Lord Ros of Helmsley. Mother of Maud de Roos (our line). *** THE CONVERGENCE: she is a SISTER of the existing Maud de Badlesmere (I99539, Countess of Oxford) - so Anne Welles's corrected maternal line rejoins the Badlesmere / Margaret-de-Clare / THOMAS DE CLARE OF THOMOND branch ALREADY in the tree, a real second descent into the existing Clare/Thomond royal lines (NOT the phantom Mowbray/Edward-I route). Direct ancestress. Added 25 Jul 2026.
