Martha Ware married Sir William Piers of Tristernagh. Her father was Sir James Ware the elder, Auditor-General of Ireland, and her brother was Sir James Ware the historian, whose manuscript collection is one of the foundations of Irish historical scholarship. The family placed its own travel writing in his collection, which is how a Piers account of the East survives at all.
